Hey y’all,
I’m gonna be honest. I’ve had a tough couple weeks. I’m not at my best, but the good news: pinball is and always has been a beautiful and strangely quiet place in my life. Even if I’m having a tough time, when I get a chance to play pinball after work every day at 5, it’s the most grounded I’ll feel all day. I know it’s cliche to call it a meditation, but it’s really that.
I think most of you know that I’ve been playing Jurassic Park an awful lot lately. That’s actually a hilarious sentence to send out in a newsletter. What a weird world. But anyway — Jurassic Park is my zen time. Even when I suck ass, I get to try and regulate, to hyper focus, to think about nothing but making sure the ball doesn’t sneak down the middle or richocet into an outlane. I keep it smooth as possible, you know?
I wrote a thing about it that I was maybe gonna publish on the site, but the more I read it the more it feels too cringy and earnest to ever share. But the point stands: my name is Ian Jacoby, and I love pinball.
Now go buy our shit.
This week? We had an awesome interview with Bug from Spooky. We debated shooter rods vs buttons, talked Evil Dead sell-out, and what it’s like to be young and in charge. Well, in pinball years he’s old as hell. Like disgustingly old. Wrinkly with warts all over him. Anyway, enjoy!
Listen to the interview with Bug, CEO of Spooky Pinball.
See y’all at the arcade.
Doc Monday (I’m gonna just start saying Ian because I’m sick of this shit)
Editor in Chief, Nudge Magazine (this will stay)
Just wanna say-cringey and earnest is good, actually. Bet a post like that would resonate with a bunch of people.
