I must regretfully admit that my mom’s chili was just not very good. Way too tomato-ey and she used kidney beans instead of pinto beans. MY chili, on the other hand, is awesome. I just buy a package of Carroll Shelby’s Chili Fixins and follow the instructions. Or I use a recipe from the internet to make a version of the famous chili from Tommy’s Hamburgers in L.A. (I once got a jaywalking ticket, I believe in 1969, for running across Ramparts to get in line quicker at Tommy’s.) Also, should you not have heard of or not been to Tommy’s, you should definitely go.
Also, I have the same problem as you of not knowing what my mood does once I’m in it. I thought I was the only one!

I’ve done worse for chili, for sure. Not exactly unspeakable things, but perhaps best whispered.
